Customer Service Team Building Activity: Can I Ask You A Question?
If you’re looking for an ice breaker for a group of newly hired employees, or even a fun reminder for your already established team, this is it! Inspired by the popular improv show “Who’s Line Is It Anyway?” this activity is as funny as it is challenging – and enlightening. It’s no secret that customer service representatives answer and ask many questions during the run of a day, and with this challenge they will have the opportunity to reflect on their experiences.
Activity: Can I Ask You A Question?
You’ll need: Several sets of 2 participants and a timer.
How to play:
- Invite a pair of volunteers to the front of the group.
- Ask one volunteer to start a conversation by asking a single question to the other that they have been asked recently by a customer, or that they have asked as a customer if they are new to their customer service representative role.
- The second volunteer must answer the question with another question asked by, or as, a customer.
- Both must see how long they can carry on the conversation with ONLY questions.
- The pair to carry on the longest “wins.”
This activity is sure to generate a few good laughs for your team and also highlight how frustrating and confusing it can be to have too many questions and not enough answers! Your team will also see similarities between the questions asked of the volunteers and questions they themselves ask or receive. Encourage the participants to consider the ways in which they can gather the information they need without a barrage of questions. It could be as simple as letting your customer know that you need to ask a few questions initially that will help you support them and the reason for their call.
Give this exercise a try! It may be tough to round up volunteers initially, so consider having some seasoned employees who may be more comfortable in front of a new group to help get you started.
