Many offices are actually doing this now. A reception person tells the assistant the person is there and then everything else is done behind the scenes. Bills are sent out via mail and customers have to spend more time at the doctor’s office.

Now when there are questions or appointment bookings to be made it can be done whenever it is convenient for the client. The office visit may be during working hours, but not the call to set it up.
